What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?
Published on December 31st, 2011

Hmmmm….guess it’s more than the title of an old 1947 song by Frank Loesser! Many people have fabulous plans for celebrating the new year, and I’ll try to list a few local events that might be fun. As for me, I prefer to stay in the safety and comfort of my own home on this particular annual occurance. If I can’t find something to watch out of a hundred+ channels, I’ll surely find something on Netflix I can stream! And that’s the extent of my big New Year’s Eve plans. Leave a comment about your plans if you’d like, it’s always fun to know what others are doing!Comedy in SLO
COMEDY WITH JEFF “BIG DADDY” WAYNE
Spend New Year’s Eve laughing till it hurts with a seasoned comedian seen on HBO, MTV, and comedy clubs across the country. Known for contemporary references and clean comedy that still pushes the edge of controversy, Jeff Wayne will perform two shows Dec. 31 at 6pm and 10pm. Cost: $20 for the show, $65 with dinner.

Ring in the New Year with during this fun and funky New Year’s Eve Dance Party! Boogie down as everyone counts down to 2012 during a fun-filled flashback concert, featuring 70’s disco tribute band “Boogie Knights” and totally awesome 80’s band “The Spazmatics.” It’s the perfect way to celebrate New Year’s Eve and it’s all free with your Club Chumash Card!
Staying Home?
Time/CNN says that 75% of Americans will be staying home for this New Year’s Eve. If you’re one of those families, try this site for family games.
The New York Times says that New Year’s Eve isn’t just a calendar date; it’s an industry, a full-employment program for makers of Champagne, party hats and toothpicks, for waiters and taxi drivers and bouncers, and not least for disc jockeys and musicians! The urge to greet the new year with public songs and dancing from local lounges to concert halls is exhibited throughout the world!
One of the most exciting traditions is the New Year’s Eve ball lowering event, which will take place in Times Square, New York City, tonight! (BTW, the ball drop tradition at One Times Square dates to 1907.) Where else is there a celebration like this? New York Time’s Square is the place! Check your TV guide listings for the version you’d like to watch, as there are several on the major networks: Dick Clark & Ryan Seacrest on ABC and Carson Daly on NBC, plus CNN will also show up, with hosts Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin.
